What are my options?
There are many contact lens options available. Dr. Meyer will take your lifestyle and vision correction needs into consideration when helping you select the right lenses for your eyes.
Here are some of the most common contact lens types:
-
Daily soft contact lenses –
are the top choice for convenience and hygiene, requiring no maintenance, which is ideal for people with busy schedules or sensitive eyes. Inserting a fresh, sterile pair every day significantly reduces infection risk. They are made from thinner materials with high water content, providing excellent, fresh comfort daily. No additional costs for
cleaning solutions or cases are needed. - Monthly soft contact lenses – are typically the most budget-friendly option, and for individuals that are committed to a daily cleaning routine. These lenses are worn daily for up to 30 days, with nightly removal and cleaning. Made with more durable, sometimes thicker, materials to last longer, which some users may find less comfortable than dailies.
- Weekly soft contact lenses – offer a middle ground, providing a relatively fresh experience more often than monthlies at a lower cost than dailies, while still requiring daily care. More frequent regular replacement helps prevent major deposit buildup.
- Hard contact lenses – known as Rigid Gas Permeable or Gas Permeable lenses, are firm, oxygen-permeable lenses that provide sharper vision, resist deposits, and are durable, making them great for irregular corneas (like keratoconus) or high prescriptions. They work by holding their shape, creating a smooth optical surface, and allowing oxygen to reach the eye, improving health and clarity compared to older, truly hard lenses.
- Extended wear contact lenses – are made from highly breathable silicone hydrogel material and are designed to be worn continuously for up to 7 days.
- MiSight 1 day contact lenses – from CooperVision are the first and only FDA-approved soft contact lenses proven to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. These daily disposable contact lenses use a unique dual-focus design, called ActivControl Technology, to both correct vision and create peripheral defocus, which helps slow the elongation of the eye associated with myopia progression. Clinical studies show that MiSight lenses can effectively slow down myopia progression by up to 59% in children compared to standard single-vision lenses.
