Slow the progression of your child’s nearsightedness.
Does your child have difficulty seeing distant objects?
Myopia (nearsightedness) typically starts to develop in childhood and often progresses until about age 20.
Slowing the progression is important because it may reduce the risk of developing serious eye conditions later in life such as cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, and blindness.
There are several treatment options to slow the progression of myopia. Schedule an exam at The Mantua Eye Center to learn more.
Nearsightedness is a growing concern in the US and other countries.
It is estimated that by the year 2050, roughly half of the world’s population will be affected by this eye condition.
Many researchers believe the rise can be attributed to more time spent staring at screens and less time outdoors.

The Mantua Eye Center uses the following to control myopia in pediatric patients:
Low-dose atropine eye drops are a proven treatment used to help slow the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in children. Used once daily at bedtime, this very low concentration is well-tolerated and does not blur vision or interfere with school or sports activities.
Special glasses to slow nearsightedness – Stellest® lenses are the newest, advanced eyeglass lenses specifically designed to slow myopia progression while providing clear, comfortable vision for everyday wear. These lenses have just been approved for use in the USA. Unlike standard lenses, these lenses use innovative optical technology to help control eye growth as children’s eyes develop. Stellest lenses look like regular glasses, but they work in the background to help manage nearsightedness long term.
MiSight® 1 day contact lenses are the first and only FDA-approved soft contact lens proven to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Unlike regular contact lenses that only correct blurry vision, MiSight lenses are specially designed with dualfocus optics. One part of the lens provides clear distance vision. The other part gently signals the eye to slow down excessive growth — the underlying cause of worsening myopia. Read more.
